The Domino Effect
This may seem like a simple concept that we all understand. But why are we not implementing it on a regular basis. We all have incredible opportunity right in front of us every day…
1. Lose weight/get fit
2. Get an education
3. Get organized
4. Start a business
5. Connect with old friends
What happens in your brain when you take a step. The fact is widely known that one action leads to another equal or greater action. Maybe you don’t know that the second or third action is usually much larger or more impactful that the first baby step.
This video shows the principle in the physical realm. A tiny domino can knock over another one that is 1 ½ times bigger… and so on, eventually toppling one the size of the empire state building. Crazy, huh?!
When you start something new or just clean out your junk drawer at home, your brain gets a hit of dopamine creating momentum. That can work for or against you. For instance, I went grocery shopping on a day that I had not eaten lunch. I bought a bag of gourmet potato chips from Trader Joe’s so I’d have a snack on hand if my grandkids came over. Before I got home, I was eating those potato chips and ultimately finished more than half the bag.
On the other hand, on the same day, I cleaned out and organized my gift wrapping bin and the momentum compelled me to rearrange my linen closet, a larger domino.
How can you put this principle to work right now?? What has been on your bucket or dream list?? Write a book? Become a home stager? Take one actionable step toward your biggest desires. You might be surprised what happens next.

I was recently asked to write an article for Porch.com. The Marketing Manager contacted me and yesterday it was published. I wrote about Confirmation Bias and the importance of Home Staging. Read it here. Near the very bottom:
