A Day in the Life
People often ask me what it’s like to be a Home Stager/re-designer. I can take you along with me on a typical day. Here goes...
I start out at our wholesale granite and quartz supplier and spend two hours choosing some options for a kitchen renovation. Then, I hop over to the nearby plumbing/kitchen/bath/lighting supplier to preview all of the kitchen appliances and some lighting fixtures for our appointment the next day. After that, I stopped by a different client’s home for a color consultation and a brainstorming session on a room refresh. $450 and $375
At the end of the day I coordinate/plan a $6500 staging with a lot of custom solutions. The homeowner wants to use some of her own furniture that she hopes to sell with the house. Then, some of our furniture and all of our accessories will transform the house.
This was a lucrative day for the business. Of course, every day is not like this. We have to spend time networking and planning. 50% of the certification class is business and marketing.
FAQ
1. Do I need to have a lot of furniture to become a home Stager? A. The answer is absolutely no. There are several sources for leased furniture in most communities, if you need it. You may wish to add furniture in the future, but many of our graduates use this business model. That way, they do not have to warehouse and transport furniture. They make money planning the job and leasing art, greenery, dishes, towels and accessories.
2. Do I
need to have a design background to succeed as a home stager? A. Most of our
successful graduates do not have design experience. One of our grads have their own design firms with designers working for them. Ex. Becky Robbins Designs in St. Louis, Mo. Also, check our www.dwellstaging.com
out of Tampa, Florida. Another successful graduate.
3. I don’t do well with online classes, and I can’t come to Florida to take the hands-on in-person class? A. The online class is filled with videos, before and after photos, demonstrations, diagrams, room floor plans, etc. It is a rich and stimulating online program. Plus, you have a money-back guarantee. Why not give it a test drive at no risk?
Yes, my friends, you can be living the life of your dreams and flourishing in the design industry. It’s just not that hard to close one door and open another to live your life doing what you love.
A Cinderella Story in the Making
I
was just speaking with a young woman, Janelle, about the
tremendous potential in the home staging arena. Yes, even in this unstable
economy, stagers are flourishing. If Real Estate is slow, we focus on redesign
and updating. That is why we teach them together.
I shared with her how staging is the “Gateway Drug” that opens the door to interior design and lucrative renovations. When someone has experienced a successful staging, they almost always ask if we can help refresh and redesign the new house. This can be a simple as choosing paint color and new accessories or as complex as a coordinating a complete kitchen/bath reno.
My latest 5-month long kitchen, guest bath, family room and dining room renovation will be the topic of our first webinar in 2024. Watch for the invitation. You will see before and after pictures and learn the progression of tasks. You will hear about navigating the legal landscape of what you can and cannot do without a design degree. Contracts and timing… It’s all in there.
Back to Janelle… She shared how many people have told her that she should consider working in design. She cannot take the time to obtain a design degree and she plans to retire early from nursing. She needs to jump in with both feet and make money right away. She saw the website and nearly cried when she realized it is a doable business… there is a place for her design obsession. And... it doesn't take years to get there.
I know Janelle will be one of our superstars one day!! She survived Covid as a nurse. She is ready to make a living doing what she loves. We have grads all over the US, in Canada, South and Central America and the Carribean who are successful home stagers. We know if they can do it... YOU CAN!!!
Don’t procrastinate!! Take a concrete step now to open that door to your future. Call us to set up a phone appointment. As famous hockey player Wayne Gretsky says, “You’ll miss 100% of the shots you never take.”
