I originally captioned this picture, HOW MANY BLONDES DOES IT TAKE TO SCREW IN A LIGHT BULB?
LOL This picture was taken after dinner out for the board, speakers and out-of-town guests. The conference was focused on advanced topics and the future for our industry.
The conference was so timely for me because this has been my most difficult year ever personally. As many of you know, my sister, who was my best friend, passed away from cancer in July. Her funeral was a colorful celebration of her free-spirited life. We all dressed up like hippies and the music plus friendship made for a spectacular memorial.
We also have some health issues in the family. (not Covid) Hopefulness is always our focus, though.
What you don't know, is... in April of this year, my marriage of 50+ years ended. Since I encourage my students and graduates to be transparent and talk about their issues, I felt it was time for me to share my evolving situation.
My ex-hubby and I are, and will continue to be, friends. It's a long story but a happy-ending... really!! I am extremely content and happy with my life right now. Yes, part of that is a choice I made. It totally works to look at your options and choose to be happy. I AM HAPPY!
I lost about 10 pounds and grew out my hair. It has been a crazy adventure!!! I am in a Christian singles group and we do all kinds of things, such as dinner, dancing, hiking, kayaking, short trips. It's wonderful!! I have made some crazy-good friends already!!!
Yes, I am on Match.com and if I were a comedienne, I would have some hilarious material. I am mostly "browsing" at this point. When I spoke at the RESA Edge conference, I talked about it a little. The audience loved it.
I shared one crazy story of a cute, older guy in the organic produce area at Sprouts coming closer to me and after a few moments of looking at me, he said, "Come here often?" He was hitting on me!!! I was so shocked, I almost dropped my grapefruit!! Who knew that the grocery store could be a pick-up place! LOL
I am having fun and I am optimistic about the future. How did that happen? This story might help to illustrate...
In the summer, I had a consultation in beautiful St. Simon's Island. I don't usually go that far (an hour and a half), but it was a beautiful day and I took my grandaughter, who helps me stage sometimes. On the trip home, a raging, dark storm was inland, on my right. And, an amazingly cloud-free sky was on my left, toward the coast. I-95 was right in the middle. The sky stayed like that the entire trip. We avoided most of the rain but I was in awe of the strange but beautiful contrast.
In addition to that, I had just recovered from cataract surgery. The colors appeared so much more vivid and surreal. I felt like God was pointing out a lesson for me. My natural tendency is toward the optimistic viewpoint anyway but God seemed to be saying, "Every day, every situation, every season... there are choices. We can't always alter our outcome but we can choose how to 'see' it. Look for the silver lining." We can put on different lenses to capture the beauty in a season of difficulty. It will make us better or bitter. I choose BETTER!!!!!
OK! Cute, single guys... here's my number...
